Parents and caregivers

Knowing how to support your child’s transition from school to higher education can be hard. Especially if this is your first time. One of the best things you can do is be familiar with the process – choosing a course, applying, finding a scholarship, paying fees. We want you to feel confident offering guidance if your child needs it.

How to apply

If your child is in year 12 (or finished in the past two years), they must apply for courses via VTAC by the due date. If not, they should apply directly to Federation University.

Alternative entry

If your child doesn’t meet the entry requirements for their dream course, they could consider one of our pathway options. They’ll receive the support they need to get where they want to be.

Financial aid

Uni might not be as expensive as you think. There are scholarships, for a start. And government funding, free TAFE options and HELP loans. Find out what your child is eligible for.

Early offer program
Your child can apply for an early offer. They’ll be guaranteed a place if they meet the early offer ATAR and all course prerequisites.
Application support
We can help with the application process. Call 1800 333 864, 9 am–5 pm, Monday to Friday or submit an online enquiry.
When people think of VCAL they think, there's no way you can get into uni purely because it's based off ATAR, which wasn't the case. I got into the diploma and without having a ATAR or anything. "
