Strategy > Delivery - Year 1 > Campus vision

Our campus vision

The University has developed a campus vision that sets out our initial thinking and strategic direction for each of our campuses.

This is about making better use of our real estate assets to drive revenue and ensure our campuses are designed to meet the current and future needs of students, staff, industry, partners and the communities we serve.

It is about making sure our campuses are fit to help us achieve our goal to build a strong, sustainable and thriving university that will transform lives and enhance communities for generations to come.

Campus vision masterplan guiding principles

Community backs campuses as places to meet, share, explore and grow

After an extensive community consultation involving 260 participants, 16 workshops, 125 survey responses and 1,337 individual comments on our vision, the message from the community is strong – they see the potential for our campuses to be places to meet, share, explore and grow.

Key themes were connection to the rest of the community, excellent facilities and partnerships with future employers. There was also a clearly articulated desire for Federation to stretch our objectives with regard to sustainability measures and targets for the future.

Participants embraced our university’s vision, as an exciting opportunity to create benefits for the greater community and enhance the campus experience for all.

The consultation has resulted in the development of five guiding principles for the development of campus masterplans:

Our campuses

A key feature of this vision includes embedding Federation University in the heart of Ballarat’s city centre to create a campus that is more accessible, visible and connected to the city, students, staff and our partners.

This city-changing project aims to create a vibrant, modern and centralised precinct. A true ‘University Town’ experience in the heart of this great city.

In Gippsland, we are focused on bringing the classroom to the community.

By establishing high-tech teaching spaces in community facilities, we can make education and training opportunities more accessible to communities right across eastern Victoria.

Better use of technology will allow us to connect our Wimmera Campus and Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct to our revitalised Ballarat CBD campus so we can better service communities right across western Victoria.

This same technology, better use of space and focus on workplace learning will also allow us to continue to expand our presence in Brisbane city and in Melbourne’s growing south-eastern suburbs.

We are excited to share this vision with you and we look forward to working together and listening to the views of our communities.
