Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) incorporates various learning and teaching activities that integrate learning with its application in the workplace. WIL provides students with work-relevant education to support and enhance their learning and ensure our graduates are fully prepared for entry into the workforce.

WIL at Federation University Australia includes mandatory clinical placements for students undertaking studies in nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology, clinical psychology, clinical exercise physiology and social work, which be completed via a mix of simulated learning, on-campus clinics and external health provider settings. WIL is also a requirement for students enrolled in education programs and provides a strong foundation towards their chosen careers in teaching. WIL provides all students with the essential links between theory and practice and we are extremely fortunate that our strong partnerships with the health and education sectors offer rich experiences for our students to enhance their learning.

Federation University Australia is incorporating WIL across all programs and courses. WIL may be real or simulated and can occur in the workplace, at the university, face to face or online. Other opportunities include voluntary placements, industry-based projects, simulated work experiences and Federation University Australia's Industry Placement Program where students undertake a placement of up to 26 weeks with a host organisation in the same field as their studies.

If you are a student, please make sure you familiarise yourself with all expectations and requirements specific to your program prior to enrolling in the program or going on your placement.

These webpages provide information to all concerned with WIL placement. However, please do not hesitate to contact our offices if you need further clarification or any other information.
