Biography

Jim Carolan is the CTIQ school embedded Learning Designer for the School of Engineering, Information Technology and Physical Sciences at Federation University. In this position he supports staff from across the school to further develop their courses following Federation’s BOLD principles to enhance the learning experience of all students. Jim is particularly interested in the use of current and emerging digital platforms and tools to facilitate and broaden the development of conceptual understanding of students.

Jim gained an honours degree majoring in physical chemistry (University of Melbourne) before teaching science and maths for a decade. This was followed by five years training pre-service teachers in the areas of Science Teaching, Learning Theory, and Teacher as Researcher. The last two and a half years have seen Jim sharing and further developing his knowledge of the effective application of digital tools to support blended and online delivery in his role as Learning Designer.
