Building the skills of our web publishing community is just one of the responsibilities of the Web Team. We also work on continuous improvement to the site in terms of usability, responsiveness, accessibility, and design. Contact us if you would like to discuss ideas or ask for help to improve your area's website. The following are just some of the improvements we have implemented lately.
FedUni website moved to cloud-hosted platform
Last month we were very excited to move our website to a cloud-hosted platform. Visitors to our website have noticed a dramatic increase in the speed it takes for a web page to load - it improved by 1200%! The move also resulted in improved stability and reliability of supporting infrastructure, leading to increased website availability. A great result all round!
Service Desk Portal
To better facilitate IT support across the University, the new Service Desk Portal makes it easier for you to get support when you need it.
The portal includes:
- A modern interface
- A faster way to request support and view past requests
- An option for 'self help' using a collection of knowledge base articles
- Updates about systems undergoing maintenance
We remind everyone that all requests for IT- and web-related support and assistance should be submitted via the Service Desk Portal.
Federation Generation microsite
FedUni recently embarked on a major marketing campaign with the aim to raise awareness, get people talking about the University and increase enrolments and community engagement.
The campaign needed to be big and out of the box, one that was always on and never turned off. The website required a fresh design with new features to stand out above regular campaigns.
The Web Team, Marketing and external agency Cubed produced the Federation Generation website. The microsite features a new HTML/CSS/JS template, large video with changing mantras and images of people in the FedUni community, from various cultures, backgrounds and age groups.
The Scholarships, Bursaries and Grants Office realised they needed to better communicate funding options available to potential and current students. As a result, a more usable website has been implemented.
The improvements include:
- A simple and visually appealing one-page design for the homepage
- Accordion menu featuring the different types of funding assistance available
- Scrolling banner to communicate updates and new funding available to students
- Calculator for students to determine which funding they may be eligible for, before applying
The calculator is an innovative idea that makes FedUni stand out above the rest. Hopefully, it will encourage potential students to apply for a course at FedUni.
After updating the website, the Scholarships, Bursaries and Grants Office have noticed a vast improvement in the number of users to their website and most importantly, an increase in applications.
