150 Years of Gold Conference
For 150 years, Ballarat has provided tertiary education in Geology, Mining and Metallurgy and support skills for the mining sector. On behalf of Federation University Australia, and its predecessor institutions including the Ballarat School of Mines and the University of Ballarat we are delighted to invite you to participate in 150 years of Gold: An International Conference Geology, Mining, metallurgy and History , to be held in Ballarat, Australia during September 23-25, 2020.
The Ballarat School of Mines was founded in 1870, and is one of the oldest tertiary institutions that continues to teach geology, mining and metallurgy. Victoria, Australia saw one of the largest gold rushes on the 1800’s and still host a variety of world class deposits including Fosterville (Mineral Reserves as at December 31, 2018 2.7 million ounces (2.7 million tonnes) at an average grade of 31.0 g/t, including a Mineral Reserve in the Swan Zone totalling 2.3 million ounces (1.47 million tonnes) at an average grade of 49.6 g/t.). Ballarat boasts an enviable mining history, beautiful historical streetscapes and an active mine and we seek to both celebrate 150 years of education and look to the future of mining in Victoria and beyond. The Conference will include workshops, plenary lectures, general lectures as well as field trips, which will give the participants insights in to both the past and the future..
