Sally Firmin: In industry, I worked as a programmer and database administrator, and for the past 20 years, I have been teaching in the higher education sector. I am interested in active learning and enhancing students’ learning experiences using technology. My discipline expertise is mainly in helping people to solve problems using computers, for example project management leadership, process analytics and social media. My research interests are in the area of computing education, women in STEM, web services and health informatics. I specialise in qualitative research, in particular the application of grounded theory, and thematic analysis.
Project Description: Robotic Business Process Automation: A Case Study
Business Process Automation (BPA) is a process of managing information, data and processes to reduce costs, resources and investment. BPA increases productivity by automating key business processes through computing technology. BPA can streamline a business for efficiency, achieve digital transformation, increase service quality, improve service delivery or contain costs. It consists of integrating applications, restructuring labour resources and using software applications throughout an organisation. Robotic process automation is an evolving field within BPA that utilises artificial intelligence. The practice of implementing robotic process automation results in the deployment of attended or unattended software agents to an organisation's environment. These software agents, or robots, are deployed to execute predefined structured and monotonous sets of business tasks or processes. Artificial intelligence software robots are implemented to handle unstructured data sets and are deployed after performing and deploying robotic process automation. Robotic process automation is the leading edge for the adoption of artificial intelligence in business environments. This project will utilise a case study methodology to investigate current practices of robotic RPA in regional business enterprise.
