  • Diploma of technical teaching
  • Cert in Supervision and Management
  • Trade certificates in : Mechanical fitting and maintenance, refrigeration and air-conditioning, diesel fitting and maintenance, welding and metal fabrication
  • Various certificates for operation of specialist vehicles and heavy equipment

Responsibilities

  • Maintain specialist geology laboratories and all associated equipment within them
  • Assist academic staff to instruct students, at all year levels, in the proper use of analytical equipment and laboratory practices
  • Developing a good working relationship with third party providers to ensure research projects are kept on budget and on time
  • Supervise undergraduate and post-graduate students and casual staff in a wide range of laboratory practices, analytical techniques and field work
  • Plan, co-ordinate and manage research projects including the supervision of students and staff, handling of logistics in general and the co-ordination of third parties
  • Manage the timely and effective supply of goods and services to ensure the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
  • Assist with the planning, preparation and conducting of time-tabled remote field trips for all year levels within geology
  • Use a broad range of skills to design, manufacture and put into service specialist equipment for the undergraduate and post graduate programs within the School in general
  • As an elected OH&S rep take an active role in the promotion of all and any OH&S issues arising within the school in general
  • Carry out annual stock takes of equipment held within geology
  • Keep current regulation certificates to operate a wide variety of heavy specialist machinery as required by the school in general
  • Using a wide skills base to maintain and repair specialist machinery as required
  • Co-ordinate sampling, sample preparation and sample analysis for a broad range of scientific research projects
