Literacy and numeracy testing information for applicants

Literacy/numeracy requirements

Initial teacher education programs

(Program codes: TO5, TR5, TY5, TY5, TX5, TZ5, PH5, TL5, TA5)

Where a non-year 12 applicant does not have:

  • A study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL (or 30 in EAL)
  • Satisfactory completion of:
  1. Units 1 and 2 of any study combination of General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods, or
  2. Units 3 and 4 of any Mathematics,
  • TL5 only: Study score of at least 25 in Mathematical Methods (CAS); interstate or overseas equivalent.

the applicant will be required to successfully complete an internal literacy and/or numeracy test as an extra requirement for entry.

Pathway programs

(Program Codes: TC5, SO5, OE5)

Where a non-year 12 applicant does not have:

  • Study score of at least 20 in any English and Units 1 and 2: Satisfactory completion of two units (any study combination) of General Maths or Maths: Mathematical Methods or Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics;
  • Successful completion of FAST
  • Successful completion in one of the following:
    Previous university study, Certificate III (and industry experience of at least one year), Certificate IV or Diploma.

Fast program

All applicants who are currently completing VCAL, unscored VCE, or those who do not meet the specified pre-requisite studies will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy test to determine their eligibility for admission.

Fast (English for Academic Purposes)

All applicants will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy test to determine their eligibility for admission.

Diploma of University Studies

(Program Code: TD1)

All applicants who do not meet the specified pre-requisite studies will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy test to determine their eligibility for admission.

Literacy and numeracy testing dates

Literacy and numeracy testing will be conducted online. Test dates for Semester 2, 2021 intake are:
