Director's welcome

CRCAH is a cross-university centre situated at the SMB Campus on Lydiard Street South in the historic precinct of Ballarat. CRCAH researchers are also based at Federation University Australia's Gippsland and Mt Helen Campuses. Current research trajectories include Historic Urban Landscapes (HUL) and sustainable regional development, the centenary of the Great War, goldfields history, Indigenous studies and the mining history of central Victoria.

CRCAH's aim is to develop further Federation University Australia's acknowledged research areas of interest and strength around Australian history. Our research remit is to engage locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. In 2016 we hosted the Australian Historical Association (AHA) annual conference.

CRCAH has a team of dedicated researchers all committed to maintaining research profiles and track records geared towards publicly engaged high impact research. Recent staff publications have been with Cambridge University Press, Australian Historical Studies, History Australia, New South Books, Tourism Management, Journal of Heritage Tourism, Routledge, Blackwell, BHS Publishing and CSIRO books. We have a strong media engagement focus and staff and students regularly contribute to public debates.
