PhD Topic Summary

Breaking through using photovoice: Supporting strong families, safe children in the context of domestic violence

With a focus on domestic violence; this research topic was developed to investigate how services can better work together to meet the needs of women and children who have experienced domestic violence. It aims to contribute to the reform of family violence services in the Central Highlands region of Victoria.

Using photovoice, women who have experienced domestic violence will take photographs to capture their lived experiences and construct shared meanings and knowledge. This information will then be shared with family violence service providers and be used to contribute to service delivery reforms.

The study seeks to understand from women’s perspectives the role of family violence services in supporting strong families, safe children using a feminist theoretical framework.
