Welcome from the Director
Since 1985, the Centre for Gippsland Studies has provided high quality research on a diverse range of regional topics. The Centre has benefited from a strong collection of historical material (including books, photographs, newspapers and ephemera), and a series of Centre Directors who have been strongly engaged in their local communities. The Centre will continue and hopefully enhance its focus on Gippsland’s history and heritage in close co-operation with our regional stakeholders including the historical societies, local museums, local government, and other industry and community groups.
As Gippsland faces a range of new challenges, there is also an opportunity to undertake a more ambitious research agenda covering the humanities, social sciences, business studies, regional development, tourism, the arts, and other areas. This is an exciting new phase in the Centre’s history, and I welcome your input into the precise shape and direction the Centre might take into the future.
