Environmental, Planning and Community Perspectives on Post-Mining Land Use
Hosted by The Centre for Gippsland Studies, Federation University
Featuring David Langmore, former Latrobe Valley regional strategic planner; author of the book, “Planning Power: the uses and abuses of power in the planning of the Latrobe Valley”; and Vice President of the Great Latrobe Park Inc. Dr Jessica Reeves, senior lecturer in environmental science at Federation University Australia and Ron Mether Manager Mining with Energy Australia Yallourn.
After almost 100 hundred years of large scale industrial mining in the Latrobe Valley we are at a critical juncture where we need to decide the fate of almost 50 square kilometres of current or former mining areas. This is a major engineering and geotechnical challenge of significant national and global proportions.
But in preparing for a post-mining future we need to utilise all of our disciplines and community perspectives. This public seminar aims to broaden the discussion to consider the role of environmental science, regional planning, and community perspectives more generally.
