Architectural technology

Like architects, building designers design beautiful, functional buildings where people live, work and play. Graduates of FedUni's Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) are in demand by architectural firms, building design practices and building contractors. You can develop the skills to design and develop working drawings and documentation for all components in the construction of residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

The technical and design skills of building designers are in great demand by architectural and building design practices, and you may establish your own building design practice, once registered with the Practitioners Registration Board. This program may also be integrated with studies in building surveying.

    Congratulations Daniel Thompson

The small home BIG LIFE competition has been won by Daniel Thomson, a second year Advanced Diploma of Building Design – Architectural student.

This significant design award was presented last Friday at the Victorian Home Show in Melbourne where Daniel's submission was on display.

Daniel's award was presented to him by Peter Maddison, facilitator of Australian Grand Designs, who spoke highly of Daniel's design and presentation techniques.

Daniel's design approach for a small house was innovative, functional, energy efficient and buildable. This method requires high level of skill, knowledge and careful attention to how occupants are likely to live, move through and use their small home.

Daniel also gave consideration to how the small space will be furnished, where belongings will be stored, how guests will be accommodated and, most importantly, how a smaller-than-normal space can be made to feel inviting rather than confining. He met the challenge to show how a big life is possible in a small home.
