Jonathan's research interests embrace international development, humanitarian aid, accountability and International Nongovernmental Development Organizations. He was recently awarded an international research grant in respect to his PhD research by the Asia Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting (APIRA) group in conjunction with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Jonathan is currently undertaking his PhD on the 'Accountability of International Nongovernmental Development Organisations' under the supervision of Professors Brian West and Jeff Faux, an area he has published in previously.
Jonathan is a lecturer in accounting and finance at Federation University Australia. Prior to his current appointment Jonathan lectured at Deakin University in financial markets, equities and investment analysis.
Before becoming involved in academia, Jonathan was engaged as a management consultant, providing services to organisations such as BHP, Telstra and Ford Australia. This involved the management and delivery of fully integrated training and development programmes, Quality Assurance (ISO 9000 series) accreditation, strategic planning and development.
Jonathan has been acknowledged for his lecturing skills having been awarded the University of Ballarat School of Business 'Most Outstanding Teacher' award in 2009. This was followed by an Invitation to present to the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) on Study-Work-Life learning and support philosophies.
