Visualising Victoria's groundwater
A challenge for rural and regional businesses, farmers and communities dealing with saline or poor-quality groundwater was that data on groundwater were located in vastly different sources and in formats that were difficult to use or inaccessible.
Relevant data were often on different platforms and could not be linked together. Researchers devised innovative knowledge portals that improved business efficiency, decision-making, regional productivity and economic development by allowing these end users in Victoria to access up-to-date information on groundwater quantity and quality and use that information as a basis for rational water usage decision making.
Research outcomes were used in five shire planning studies, and an international standard for groundwater data transfer was based on VVG.
