Our campus library buildings are currently closed to students and staff in line with COVIDSafe guidelines provided by the Victorian Government. However our online library and study spaces are still open, with all our services, collections and skills programs available and delivered to you online. Check out more details below:

Book a study space

Although our campus library buildings are currently closed, individual study spaces for students that provide access to a computer and Wi-Fi are available at all campuses.  Bookings are essential – book your seat here.

Each learning space meets the Victorian Government's COVID-19 social distancing and hygiene requirements. Workstations and high touchpoint surfaces are refreshed through a two-hourly cleaning program. Please wash your hands thoroughly before and after using the space and do not attend if you are feeling unwell.

Due to social distancing recommendations, study spaces cannot be used for group study sessions.

Study and research help

Our campus library buildings are closed, but you can still access library services and receive assistance from library staff. Need more help?

The Academic Skills and Knowledge (ASK) team is staffed by experienced Student Academic Leaders, and supports all Fed undergraduate and TAFE students. They can provide support in a variety of areas, from interpreting assignment topics and preparing for exams, to using using Moodle and Turnitin to submit work. Learning Skills Advisors (LSAs) are also available to support your learning. Learning Skills advisors are professional educators who work with you to achieve your academic goals. Book an appointment with a Learning Skills Advisor.

Need to print?

Printing, scanning and  copying facilities are available in all our study spaces. Access them by booking a study space here.

Accessing and borrowing library materials

Although our campus libraries are currently closed, you can  browse and access our online collection of ebooks and journals through QuickSearch. Select ‘Full text online’ to limit your results to online items only.

Can’t find it online?

We can also post books to you. To request an item, click the ‘Request' button at the top of the catalogue entry for the item you require. Select "Postal delivery" as the pick-up location. We will even send you a reply paid address label so that the books can be returned safely. Please note, overdue penalties accrued on returned items due to Australia Post and other delays will be waived

Returning items

To return items you have borrowed using postal delivery, please use the reply paid label sent with the item and drop them at any AusPost Post Office or posting box – you can use this handy Post Box locator tool to find the closest one to you.

If you do not have a replay paid label, you can still post them to us free of charge, using the following reply-paid address:

You are also able to return items via the return drop boxes available outside our campus libraries at Ballarat, Mount Helen, Berwick and Gippsland, although please note our Victorian campus library buildings are closed to all non-library staff at the present time, so you will not be able to enter the building.

Renewing items

You can renew borrowed items online by logging into My Library with your Fed student number and password or by using the MyLibrary! App.

Having trouble getting things back to us?

Document delivery and course readings services

Document delivery and course readings services continue to run as normal. For more information about either service (including contact information), visit the Document delivery page; or see our Making material available to students page.

Requesting materials

Electronic versions of required texts and other books are being purchased by the Library as a priority. To request the library purchase an electronic version of a text required for teaching purposes contact acquisitions@federation.edu.au, or lodge a Campus Life service now request.

Library classes

While physical library classes are no longer possible, the library is able to offer your class support in a number of ways:

  • A synchronous class using Adobe Connect that can be recorded
  • The creation of videos tailored to your class’ needs that can be placed into Moodle
  • The creation of Moodle resources such as books that students can work through at their own pace

Staying safe

We want to provide the safest environment possible for our staff and students. We ask that you help us to do this, by respecting the well-being of your fellow students and Fed staff by following the recommendations of the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services anytime you are on campus to return books or use the study spaces.

Wear a mask, wash and sanitise your hands, and follow physical distancing recommendations by staying 1.5 metres from other people wherever possible.  If you feel unsafe on campus for any reason, including other students ignoring social distancing guidelines, call Fed Security for assistance.

We're also working hard behind the scenes to keep you safe by ensuring that all returned library materials are quarantined for an appropriate amount of time to insure there is the least possible risk of these contributing to the spread of COVID, and increased cleaning schedules are in place for all campuses, in accordance with the recommendations of the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.
