A day in the life of a nursing student

Rhythm - 28 September 2023

I’m pursuing nursing as my career as I love helping people. Federation University has contact with many hospitals to provide us with placement and they give us a lot of support to improve our skills in specialist labs on campus too.

Take a look at a day in my life as a nursing student and read my answers to a few quickfire questions below:

What do you enjoy most in your course? Fed Uni provides us with so many opportunities. In the uni, we have hospital rooms where we have beds, equipment and real-life dolls that help us improve our skills.

Why are placements important? The placements Fed Uni provides helps us to learn more and do practical things under the supervision of working registered nurses. It's a great opportunity to learn more and experience Australian workplaces.

Is there much variety in your placements? Each placement is a different category, a whole new specialisation, which is really good for us to explore. So far, I've completed two placements - one in aged care and one in mental health. We can explore the different careers we want to go into further, like mental health nursing.

What do you want to do when you graduate? After I graduate I want to become a registered nurse, working with people. I hope to ride some horses too and enjoy life.

What has been a highlight of your Fed Uni experience so far? Last year they hosted a Bollywood night – it was so much fun. The International Student Advisory also host events for every culture so that everyone gets to enjoy food from home and share their culture.
