6 reasons why living on campus is the best way to start life at Uni

"Travel is still the most intense mode of learning"

Here's a beautiful quote from Kevin Kelly that highlights the fact that studying abroad can be daunting. I always keep in mind that I made the right decision and that I am here for a reason.

Don't worry! We share the same feeling. I've always been happy with my life. I was content and had a very hectic schedule at work back home in the Philippines but then, just like in John Lennon's words, "Life happens when you are busy making other plans". I came to Australia with clothes enough to last me a week or two. I was clueless about how I am to start my life from scratch. I don't even know where I am going to live once I begin the semester! After applying, I was fortunately awarded an accommodation scholarship by Federation University at FedLiving - which I now call my home.

Here are 6 reasons why I think living on campus is the best way to start your life at university.

1. Accommodation Scholarship

Getting an accommodation scholarship was amazing! It was like hitting the jackpot because not only did I receive financial support, but I also got to save a significant portion of my allowance. It was such a fantastic deal!

2. XO, Kitty vibes!

Have you watched the Netflix series? If not, then you should! It’s like a thrilling rom-com that takes you on a journey of self-discovery and adventure in a boarding school setting. Similarly, living with FedLiving certainly gives the same vibes. It’s a whirlwind of excitement, freedom and full of emotions, but the sense of independence and the opportunity to explore make it all worthwhile.

3. BARS (Ballarat Association of Residential Students)

You get to be a member of BARS and they offer lots of fun activities like the recent Laser Tag which is such an incredible experience! Connect with BARS when you start on campus and view the many clubs and groups you can join here.

4. Meeting new friends

The FedLiving community is very multicultural which means you get to meet people from all over the world. Since I love to eat, I also get to try different cuisines and practice your English too! In my first week, I met so many different people and now have friends like Tabi, Christian, Kana and Sharpay. They all come from different courses.

5. Free amenities

I am a very outdoorsy type of girl and I enjoy being active. I can jog every morning and witness the beauty of nature surrounding my FedLiving accommodation. But the best part about living on campus is that I get to enjoy the gym and the pool! There are a lot of areas to study with free Wi-Fi too. Did I tell you that it is open 24/7 complete with a free student pantry and vending machines? Amazing, isn’t it?

6. Support systems

Every beginning can be terrifying but having a support system, like the one at FedUni, means you belong to a community that creates an environment safe enough to embrace your fears and ready to guide you every step of the way. I can easily speak with learning advisors and join seminars and conferences offered by the university.

I know we all have our own different paths to cross. Things can get crazy along the way but knowing that you are not alone can be such a relief, right? Safety will always be at the top of my priority, and I know that I am safe where I am right now. Starting your life from scratch can be better if you just trust the process and know that there are many options available to you at Federation University.
