Short biography

Dr Vidya Saikrishna received her PhD from Monash University, Australia in 2017. She completed her Master’s in Technology (M. Tech) in 2012 and Bachelor’s in Engineering in 2002 from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, India and Barkatullah University, India respectively. After completing her bachelor’s degree in 2002, Dr Saikrishna served as a lecturer and assistant professor in multiple Indian Universities teaching Computer Science to undergrad and postgrad university students. While pursuing her teaching, Dr Saikrishna had the honour of being sponsored for M. Tech. Program at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology. Her research area during this phase included improving the efficiency of existing string-matching algorithms. She served as an Assistant Professor in the same institute after completing M. Tech. and had the opportunity to supervise undergraduate research projects along with undertaking teaching responsibilities.

Dr Saikrishna migrated to Australia in 2013 to pursue her PhD under the able supervision of Dr Sid Ray and Dr David Dowe. Her research area during PhD included investigation of machine-learning algorithms for text classification and she came up with the application of minimum message length principle to spam classification problem. She started teaching at Monash University in 2014 and served as a Lecturer in Melbourne Institute of Technology and Central Queensland University from 2017-2020. During her teaching in Australian Universities, she taught units including database (Oracle and MySQL), computer networks, data structures, algorithms (analysis and design), mobile application development, project management and programming using Python and Java. She also supervised Capstone projects during her teaching. Ever since Dr Saikrishna migrated to Australia, she has lived in Tarneit, VIC.
