Dr Clarence Green currently lectures in the School of Education at the Berwick campus of Federation University Australia. He holds a PhD in linguistics (University of Melbourne) and a Master of Applied Linguistics (University of Melbourne), as well as a Graduate diploma of Secondary Education (La Trobe). He is an Australian and Canadian citizen, whose previous roles included training teachers in Singapore while he was an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. Dr Clarence Green spent several years as a secondary school English teacher in Victoria, Australia, and worked as an ESL lecturer in Toronto. He is currently registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and the Ontario College of Teachers.
Areas of expertise
Dr Clarence Green has published and taught in areas of the cognitive psychology of language, literacy instruction, language development, corpus linguistics, disciplinary literacy, stylistics and English grammar. His areas of expertise are language and literacy, psycholinguistics, corpus linguistics and research methods (statistics). His research has appeared in journals such as the Australian Journal of Education, Language Sciences, Linguistics and Education, System, Cognitive Linguistics, Language and Literature, English for Specific Purposes, the Journal of English for Academic Purposes, Lingua. His book, Patterns and Development in the English Clause System (2017), is an examination of English clause grammar from a usage-based linguistics perspective. His corpus research involves using corpora (large samples of human language use designed for computational analysis) to explore the language of academic disciplines and produce pedagogical resources for enhancing disciplinary literacy across the curriculum in primary, secondary and second language educational contexts.
