Federation University makes its mark in 2023 World University Rankings

Posted: Wednesday 26 October 2022

The release of the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) World University rankings has shown that Federation University Australia continues to make its mark globally in higher education.

The THE World University Rankings 2023 lists the world’s best 1,800 universities across 104 countries and regions.

With campuses in Ballarat, Berwick, Brisbane, Gippsland and the Wimmera, Federation’s world ranking is recognition of the role the University plays in driving economic growth and jobs in its regions through industry and government partnerships.

This year, Federation showed marked improvement in some subject areas while maintaining its ranking as one of the top 250 Young Universities in the world.

Federation is now ranked in the top 301-400 universities globally for Clinical and Health, having previously ranked in the 401-500 bracket. Additionally, although the University was previously unranked in Engineering it has now been recognised as being in the top 301-400 universities globally for this subject.

In another positive result, Federation ranked in the top 401-500 universities globally for Computer Science, the first time the university has achieved a rank in this field.

The improved rankings in Clinical and Health, and Engineering, come off the back of two recent Regional Research Collaboration grants for Renewable Energy and Management of Chronic Health Conditions, which aim to deliver research that will help transform lives and enhance communities.

Overall, Federation University maintains its rank in the top 601-800 universities in the world, the second consecutive year that it has held this position in the global rankings. Federation is also one of the fastest improving universities in terms of citation and is one of the most highly ranked universities in the Asia Pacific region for International Perspective.

With Federation University Australia being established in its current form in 2014, it was once again ranked in the top 250 Young Universities in the world.

Quotes attributable to Federation University Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation, Professor Chris Hutchison

“These latest rankings reflect Federation University Australia’s commitment to high-quality teaching, research, and industry partnerships, while upholding our pledge to transform communities and enhance lives.”

“Although through our predecessor institutions we have an enviable history dating back over 150 years, I am proud that given Federation University itself is only eight years old, our excellence in a number of fields has resulted in recognition as one of the top 250 young universities in the world.”
