Federation University appoints Professor Andrew Gunstone to lead on reconciliation matters

Posted: Wednesday 19 October 2022

Federation University Australia has appointed Professor Andrew Gunstone as its inaugural Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Reconciliation. This new position is responsible for all reconciliation matters and the university’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

The appointment demonstrates the university’s strong commitment to reconciliation and comes as the nation prepares to hold a referendum on establishing an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.

Professor Gunstone joins Federation University from Swinburne University where he was Executive Director, Reconciliation Strategy and Leadership. Previously he held senior leadership roles at University of South Australia and Monash University. He is also Co-Chair of Reconciliation Victoria.

Professor Gunstone will be working across the university, and with industry, community, and government stakeholders, to increase regional, national, and international understandings of, and drive transformational changes in, the areas of reconciliation, truth, and justice.

The appointment of Professor Gunstone is another step in Federation University’s ongoing journey in supporting the national reconciliation movement and working collaboratively and inclusively to advance outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Federation University is also recruiting for the inaugural position of Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Indigenous. This position, which is identified for an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, will be responsible for all Indigenous matters, including the Aboriginal Education Centre. The position will also work closely with the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Reconciliation.
