Fed Uni and City of Greater Dandenong MoU to strengthen ties

Posted: Wednesday 9 December 2020

Federation University and Greater Dandenong City Council have reinforced their relationship to help the south-east Melbourne region recover more quickly from the impact of COVID-19.

The University and Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build on the extensive partnerships that exist between Federation and local employers.

A key goal is to closely match the available skills and training through the University’s Berwick campus to better meet evolving industry and community needs.

The campus’s expansive courses and ease of access align with the region’s education and training needs, making it well placed to serve the City of Greater Dandenong’s highly diverse community.

The MoU seeks to explore opportunities to build workforce capabilities through teaching, research and entrepreneurship, as well as playing an important role in youth and community engagement.

Close collaboration between Federation and the City of Greater Dandenong has already delivered significant benefits to the community, including:

  • Contributing to the community groups and agencies through our social work programs. Our Foundation Studies program further supports access and preparation for university study
  • Addressing workforce shortages in maternal, child and family health nursing by establishing the required program and placements in the region
  • Ongoing identification of gaps in the health sector and development of programs to meet the needs of the community
  • Investigation of potential partnership opportunities in sports and shared facilities.
