Posted: Friday 14 August 2020

For the second year in a row Federation University graduates are more likely to get a full-time job and earn a higher starting salary than graduates from any other Victorian university, according to the new Good Universities Guide 2021* ratings.

Released today, the ratings reflect Federation University’s strength in providing the highest quality teaching and support throughout a student’s education in order to equip students with the skills that employers are seeking in an employee.

Federation University is ranked the number one university in Australia for two categories – Teaching Quality (Postgraduate) and First Generation Student Enrolments and is the number one university in Victoria in eleven other categories, including:

  • Number one in Victoria for graduate full-time employment
  • Number one in Victoria for Starting Salary for graduates ($63,000 average)
  • Number one in Victoria for Social Equity
  • Number one in Victoria for Student Teacher Ratio
  • Number one in Victoria for Skills Development (undergraduate)
  • Number one in Victoria for Skills Development (postgraduate)
  • Number one in Victoria for Student Support (undergraduate)
  • Number one in Victoria for Student Support (postgraduate)
  • Number one in Victoria for Teaching Quality (undergraduate)
  • Number one in Victoria for Learner Engagement (postgraduate)
  • Number one in Victoria for Overall Experience (postgraduate)

In addition to these number one rankings, Federation University achieved the highest five-star rating in learner engagement, learning resources and overall undergraduate experience, placing Federation in the top 20 per cent of Australian universities in these categories.

These results provide recognition of the high-quality education that we offer and our support of widening participation in tertiary education, providing economic and social benefits to our university communities.

These changes are already having an impact, with today’s Good Universities Guide ratings building on the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) ratings released in March, which saw the quality of research at Federation University rated as well above world standard for the first time in seven research areas.

Quotes attributable to Acting Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Andy Smith

“Again these incredible results reinforce the level of teaching and support that we continuously provide to our students and the strengths of their pathways as they successfully step into full-time employment and high starting salaries.

“This signals to our students and their families that a qualification from Federation University can lead to a well-paid, fulfilling career.”

“It is truly wonderful to see that many of our students are the first in their family to go to university and our national number one ranking in this category confirms that with the right training and support they can succeed and transform their lives.”
