Orientation Week kicks off at Federation

Posted: Thursday 27 February 2020

More than 2700 new Federation University Australia students are getting their first taste of university life this week as Orientation Week is launched throughout the state.

Students at the Mt Helen, Camp Street, School of Mines Ballarat (SMB) and Berwick campuses have enjoyed four days of information sessions, food, music and fun events as they make new friends and familiarise themselves with Federation University.

The week coincides with strong growth in many Federation University programs compared to last year.

The Bachelor of Education (Primary); the Graduate Diploma of Paramedicine; the Bachelor of Veterinary and Wildlife Science; and the Bachelor of Education (Primary and Secondary P-10) are just some of the programs that have recorded strong increases in enrolments compared to last year.

Ballarat campuses welcomed commencing students to O Week at a breakfast followed by a meeting with student mentors.

Commencing students at the Berwick campus launched their events with food and a campus tour, as well as a Welcome to Campus and Smoking Ceremony. An Acoustic Arvo and Clubs Welcome Party also were held.

Camp Street students took part in the Arts Academy Challenge. A Dance Orientation was also performed by Performing Arts students.

Quotes attributable to Professor Helen Bartlett, Vice-Chancellor and President

“It is a delight to welcome our new first-year students to Federation University. They are joining a university that takes pride in delivering relevant and up-to-date programs as well as producing job-ready graduates.”

“Orientation Week is an exciting time for new students as there are many events and activities to enjoy. It is during this week that life-long friendships are often made.

“Many of these students will also stay here after they graduate. About 68 per cent of bachelor level and 63 per cent of postgraduate FedUni graduates will go on to work in our regional areas and contribute to their local community and economy.”
