About the program

Session 1: road rules, traffic signs and the Australian licence system
This session covers:
- Driving in Victoria
- Learner and Probationary Licence Requirements
- Alcohol, drugs, mobile phone use and driving
- Seat belts
- Speed zones
- Accidents
- Calling Police

Session 2: safe and responsible driving in Australia
This session covers:
- Safe driving techniques
- Handling emergencies or difficult road conditions
- Practical skills: indicators, blind spots, merging
- Importance of observing speed limits, yielding, and maintaining appropriate distances

Session 3: cultural differences in driving and psychology of driving in Australia
This session covers:
- Understanding how cultural differences impact driving behaviour
- Importance of adapting to local driving etiquette and respecting other road users
- Psychological aspects of driving: stress management, decision-making, maintaining focus, and reaction times
- Strategies for calm, confident driving in unfamiliar environments

Session 4: insurance, legal requirements, car maintenance and pedestrian safety
This session covers:
- Types of car insurance (comprehensive, third-party)
- Legal driving requirements (mandatory insurance, registration, etc.)
- Procedures following an accident and legal responsibilities
- Basic car maintenance: checking tyres, fluid levels, handling breakdowns
- Safe driving tips for long distances and adverse weather
- Pedestrian rights, crossings, and interacting safely with cyclists and other road users

Free supervised practice driving sessions
We aim to provide at least two free, supervised driving sessions to give you chance to practice what you've learnt.
We'll organise the car and if possible, match you with a supervisor who speaks your first language.
