Road Ready Victoria Program

Adjusting to life in Australia includes learning how to navigate a new transport system and road environment. The Road Ready Victoria Program provides international students with the knowledge and practical skills they need to use Victoria's roads, public transport and pedestrian networks. You'll also have the opportunity to get behind the wheel and practise driving on Australian roads with a qualified driving instructor, helping you build confidence in real-world driving conditions. The program is proudly supported by Study Melbourne Inclusion Program (SMIP).

The workshop will help you:
- build confidence using trains, trams and buses
- understand pedestrian and tram safety requirements
- identify safe places and people to ask for help
- develop practical strategies for responding to common challenges (such as service disruptions, becoming separated from a group or having a flat phone battery).
The Road Ready Melbourne Challenge also provides an excellent opportunity to connect with your peers, build social networks and become more familiar with living and travelling in Melbourne. And there will be prizes for completing challenges successfully!

Eligibility
You must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- You have arrived in Australia within six months of registering for the program.
- You have completed one of the Victoria Road Ready workshops.
- You have completed the Learner Permit Test.
Registration and booking process
- Complete the registration form.
- Pay the refundable participation deposit of $50.
The $50 deposit will be refunded when you've completed your scheduled driving lessons. If a lesson is cancelled less than 48 hours beforehand, or you don't attend, the deposit won't be refunded. This helps us make sure lessons aren't wasted and that all students who want to learn have the opportunity.
Please only book a lesson if you're confident you can attend. If something unexpected happens and you need to reschedule, please contact the driving instructor as early as possible so we can help you rearrange your booking and still make use of your deposit.
Next steps
Once the International Student Advisory team has confirmed receipt of the deposit payment and verified your eligibility, we'll provide the driving instructor's contact details. You can then contact the instructor directly to arrange your driving lessons.
