About the scholarship
Established as a friendly society in Ballarat 140 years ago, UFS Dispensaries is one of the original social enterprises (UFS is an abbreviation for United Friendly Societies). Fast forward to today and they are still operating as a social enterprise, working to improve the health of our members, customers and the community.
They now operate 22 pharmacies in the western region of Victoria and Melbourne’s inner north, as well as other business units, including UFS Medical, Supercare Nursing Services and Peace & Quiet day spa. UFS opened a COVID-19 testing clinic in Ballarat in 2020 in response to the pandemic, followed by a COVID-19 vaccination clinic in Ballarat in 2021.
As a mutual organisation owned by their members (not by shareholders), any profits they generate are invested back into the business for the benefit of members, customers and the community. As part of their total commitment of $100,000 to support those in the community most affected by the pandemic, they are thrilled to be supporting Federation University’s student hardship fund and providing this scholarship tonight.
