The flu vaccine helps protect against influenza, a highly contagious virus that spreads through coughs and sneezes. Vaccination each year helps reduce the risk of infection, severe illness and spreading the virus to others.
Flu vaccines are updated annually and are usually available from April, before the peak flu season in Australia.
What to know:
- The flu vaccine is recommended every year.
- It helps protect you and the wider community.
- The vaccine cannot give you the flu.
- It's low cost (max $20) or free for eligible students.
