Australian Carbon Innovation
Federation University is partnered with Australian Carbon Innovation (ACI)* to work towards developing high-value carbon products in Gippsland and the Latrobe Valley.
Together, we are investing in the development of technologies in carbon innovation (including CO₂ recycling), hydrogen utilisation and emissions reduction, and are committed to creating the scientific, engineering and trades expertise in the region to support these technologies.
FedUni’s support of this partnership includes the establishment of the Regional Carbon Innovation Centre, provision of scholarships, and other activities.

Regional Carbon Innovation Centre
FedUni’s Carbon Technology Research Centre (CTRC) and ACI have been working together to develop the Regional Carbon Innovation Centre (RCIC) in the Latrobe Valley.
The proposed RCIC is designed to take new carbon-related products and technologies developed in the lab and turn them into commercial opportunities.
A feasibility study for the Centre has been completed with joint funding from ACI, FedUni and Regional Development Victoria.
FedUni hosted ACI’s Hydrogen Forum on Thursday 8 August 2019.
A line-up of distinguished speakers, including Australia’s Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel and CSIRO Research Director for Oil, Gas and Fuels Dr Patrick Hartley, spoke on the new technologies and opportunities that will come from hydrogen.
For more information on the Hydrogen Forum, including the agenda and videos of the presentations, go to the ACI website.
