About Ryan Margetts

Ryan James Margetts was born in Dimboola on 27 October 1986. He was the first-born child and only son of Kelvin and Debbie and older brother to Kyla and Hannah. He was full of mischief as a young child, and his sporting abilities shone from a young age.

At an early age Ryan displayed his hardworking nature and enjoyed working a variety of jobs all across the country before training and working as a Police Custody Officer. Ryan attended the squad academy training in Melbourne and graduated on the 28 April 2017, alongside the other Squad Five members. Ryan loved this position, showing great enthusiasm and a strong work ethic.

Ryan’s extensive careers funded and supported his adventurous personality and true love of travelling. He visited parts of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil, Thailand, Bali, Vanuatu, and many countries across Europe. During his travels Ryan made plenty of friends, memories and left lasting impressions wherever he went.

Tragically on 5 June 2017, Ryan died. He is fondly remembered as being compassionate, caring, having a big heart and a cool casual approach to life, as well as for his cheeky grin.

The Ryan Margetts Scholarships is generously provided by the Margetts family in Ryan's honour. The scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2019.
