About the Hamilton & District Rural Australians for Refugees group

The Hamilton & District Rural Australians for Refugees group was established in 2015 when a group of four people from Hamilton met to start a local group supporting refugees.

The group support The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Footscray and continue to raise money with suitable film events.  Two members on the group are involved in a Committee called Economic Migration Pilot which is aiming to bring former refugees who wish to move to rural areas to the Shire.

The group was initially provided with a donation of $10,000 by a local philanthropist to support refugees.  This funding has enabled the group to support a number of scholarships to students studying at FedUni.
