Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e MOU
In December 2013, Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) and Federation University Australia (FedUni) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement captured the mutual desire of these two institutions to work together in meaningful collaboration. This agreement resulted from a visit to Timor-Leste in June 2013, conducted by Professor Frank Stagnitti, Adjunct Professor Patrice Braun and Dr Janette Corcoran.
A new MOU was renegotiated, expanded and signed in a graduation ceremony at UNTL, Dili, Timor-Leste on 24 November 2016. The signing was executed by the Rector of UNTL, Professor Doutor Francisco Miguel Martins and the FedUni Timor-Leste Relationship Coordinator, Associate Professor Dr. Jerry Courvisanos. See above photographs of the signing ceremony.
Focus of the initial MOU was to explore ways to build institutional research capacity. Also important was a focus upon gender issues and community resilience.
Focus of the new MOU has expanded and deepened knowledge-based activities to include specific programs from FedUni to UNTL related to a geology scholarship, New Colombo Plan student visits, staff research skills workshops, support for student-based university activities, research collaborations with Timor-Leste based non-government organisations (NGOs), and policy consultations with the Timor-Leste Government.
