CEO of Straits Resources from July 2002 to December 2012, including Chairman of listed Subsidiary, Straits Asia Resources in Singapore.
Development of a number of mining operations in diversified commodities and Geographies. Headed up global workforce of over 8000 employees with group companies listed in Australia, Canada and Singapore.
Describe the most enjoyable and challenging aspects of your job
Working with dynamic and interesting people in different parts of the world is the most enjoyable aspect my career, managing challenging and volatile commodity markets and interaction with governments and regulators provided some of the biggest challenges.
Securing funding for project development and acquisitions provided highlights and challenges.
What are your strongest memories while you were studying at Federation University Australia?
The social interaction and residential life at the College was some of the most memorable aspects of studying at the University. Inter College sporting events and band nights were particularly memorable.
Do you have any advice about life after study to pass on to current students?
Success is not a gift you need to work to get results. Put yourself in the position to create your own luck by staying engaged even if times are tough. Change is a constant so stay flexible in your plans and expectations.
