Ian has a long history with Federation University and its predecessor institutions, graduating with his first degree from Monash University, a Bachelor of Economics, in 1969 before attaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1973 and a Master of Public Policy and Management in 2003.

His professional history also includes roles at the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education and Monash University as a Sessional Tutor for the School of Business and Economics. In its current incarnation, Ian has worked for the University as both a Sessional Academic with the School of Business and by supporting and marketing the University’s Industry Placement program. He is a valued ambassador for both the University and higher education in Gippsland. Other roles through his career include at the Latrobe Regional Commission; the City of Maribyrnong; Shire of Yarra Ranges; Latrobe City Council; and the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.

Over the past forty years Ian has actively served his region through various board, committee, and local community organisation roles including for the Latrobe Regional Hospital; the State Electricity Commission of Victoria, and recently as Chair of the Community Advisory Group on the Star of the South Offshore Wind Project.

Ian is an exemplary conduit between community, local government and industry. His sustained leadership and involvement demonstrate his dedication to the region and people.
