Arifin has made significant contributions to the higher education and learning sectors in Indonesia and is an advocate of lifelong learning. Graduating with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Ballarat in 2012, he also has a Diploma of English; Bachelor of Economics (Accounting); Master of Management; and is undertaking a PhD in Governance and Risk Management.

Arifin began his career as a language teacher in 2002. He holds Professional Lecturer Certification from the Minister of Education in Indonesia and has taught accounting, finance, hospitality management, taxation and entrepreneurship. He began lecturing at Information Technology and Business Campus, Medan, where he was later Assistant Chairman (Student Affairs); Head of Taxation; and Head of Accounting. He then moved to Wilmar Business Indonesia as Faculty.

In 2014 Arifin was involved in the establishment of the Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), in Medan, Indonesia, renowned for offering a modern, holistic educational approach. An avid supporter of holistic learning, Arifin believes it cultivates a developing child’s physical, emotional, moral, psychological, and spiritual qualities and prepares them for lifelong learning. He encourages young people to discover which fields of study and future careers align best with their passions, aptitudes and personalities and to match their passion to their study program.

As Executive Director at UPH Medan campus, Arifin leads the operational and academic development of the university. He plays a role in curriculum design and module development with a particular interest in Business, Taxation and Accounting programs through his dual role of Dean for Faculty of Economics and Business, Computer Science and Law.

Arifin has authored several textbooks about the Indonesian taxation system, and entrepreneurship, and is a frequent guest speaker on business, entrepreneurship, and personal development. He is a member of Indonesia Chartered Accountants; a Certified Business Valuer; a Certified Management Accountant; and is a Fellow of the Academy of Finance and Management Australia.
