Staff embrace the spirit of giving

Staff at Federation University have entered 2020 embracing the spirit of giving, to make a positive impact in their communities. The Corporate Governance team supported local Ballarat charity Eureka Mums by packing school bags and first food kits to be distributed to people in need by local welfare agencies. It was a rewarding and team-building day, helping to support local children to settle into school and seeing first-hand the work that Eureka Mums do in the community.

In Gippsland, staff are responding to the bushfire crisis in East Gippsland by extending a back-to-school collection program to bushfire affected communities. Facilities staff at the Gippsland campus coordinated the effort to collect stationery and school essentials to pack 21 backpacks, ready for families dealing with the return to school in the midst of the bushfire recovery.

At our libraries and at Student HQ, fundraising efforts raised more than $1770 for the bushfire appeal. Simultaneous morning teas were hosted across our campus libraries in Berwick, Gippsland and Mt Helen in January, with staff across the campuses giving generously. Meantime, back at Ballarat Student HQ, the Social Club hosted a BBQ so staff and students could snag a sausage in the name of a good cause.
