Post-graduate internship program

Your FedUni experience doesn’t end at graduation. All eligible graduates will receive an industry internship placement. You will spend time immersed in a host company alongside Australian professionals.

Gain work experience and bridge the gap between university and your career. Upon graduation, FedUni Brisbane students are eligible to apply for the Professional Internship Program at no extra cost.

This Program can kick-start your career with online work-readiness modules and a professional internship that will improve your employability prospects.

Program participants spend time immersed in a host company alongside Australian professionals. The program consists of three online workshops with a 12-week full-time or part-time internship.

FedUni Brisbane has partnered with Navitas Professional to provide this unique opportunity.

Navitas Professional and your host company will agree on a personalised training plan and allocate a mentor to you, so you will get the most out of your internship and Australian workplace experience.

Program structure

The Professional Internship Program is a 16 week program consisting of four online work-readiness workshops and an internship placement:

  • Pre-commencement orientation session
  • Three online work-readiness modules*
  • 12-week full-time or part-time internship in your field of study
  • Exit interview
  • Graduation event

Participants may join the program at any time throughout the year.

If one of your goals is to improve your English skills, we can arrange for an English language study option either before or during your internship.

*Work-readiness modules must be completed in order to start your internship placement process.

Graduate outcomes

Professional internship candidates will graduate with:

  • Experience in job search techniques including LinkedIn profiles, resume and cover letter examples enhancing the conversion of your job application to interview.
  • An understanding of the interview process including the types of questions to expect and how to frame answers according to individual experiences.
  • Realistic expectations relating to employment in the Australian workplace.
  • Aan understanding of acceptable behaviour and practice in the Australian workplace relating to relevant Work Health & Safety (WHS) frameworks, workplace diversity, workplace codes of conduct, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and discrimination.
  • The ability to self-manage their daily work activities in a team environment.
  • A solution-focus to workplace problems.
  • An awareness of how to give and receive professional constructive feedback.
  • An understanding of how to maximise the internship experience.

Coursework

The three online modules** include:

  • Australian Workplace Culture - Succeeding in the Australian workplace by understanding culture, management and initiative
  • Communication, Teamwork and Diversity - Succeeding in the Australian workplace through communication, teamwork and diversity
  • Build your Digital Brand - Express your personal brand with your portfolio

Upon completion of the online modules you will be eligible to undertake an internship placement relevant to your field of study.

Throughout the program, a dedicated internship placement coordinator will meet with you to discuss and assess your career goals, coach and help you prepare for your interview/s and find a suitable placement.

**Where appropriate, workshop content embeds performance criteria elements of the national Unit of Competency: BSBWOR404 - Develop work priorities in preparation for the vocational placement component of this program^.

The work experience placement component of this course includes summative assessment according to performance and knowledge assessment criteria specified in BSBWOR404 Develop work priorities^.

This is integrated throughout our authentic internship selection process that will build your confidence in key job seeking stages and experience real world workplace selection process. Once your placement is successful, an agreed personalised internship training plan, with your host company, will be developed and allocated supervisors will mentor and support you throughout your placement.

A mid-internship assessment and post-internship review will be conducted; ensuring participants receive valuable feedback on their progress and workplace skill development.
Upon successful conclusion of the program students will receive a Certificate of Completion and ongoing career support.

  • Navitas training and assessment practices are fully compliant under ASQA Standards for Registered Training Organisations
  • Navitas Professional Training Pty Ltd is a registered training organisation RTO: 21663
  • Business development consultants interview all applicants to assess suitability for the program and internship placements
  • Internship placement coordinators perform a minimum of one workplace progress assessment during each internship
  • All Navitas Professional graduates are surveyed for student satisfaction on completion of the Professional Internship Program

Entry requirements

Local and international graduates are qualified to participate in the Professional Internship Program if they satisfy the following requirements:

  • Have recently completed (in the last 2 years) or currently be enrolled in and have completed at least one year course of study related to your placement field and/or maintained professional currency
  • Be an Australian citizen or hold a suitable visa
  • Be a native English speaker or demonstrate English language proficiency to a minimum PTE-A score of 50, IELTS band score 6.0 or equivalent
