Creative Gippsland had its early beginnings in 2000. The Cultural Development, Arts and Tourism staff from the six Gippsland councils; Bass Coast Shire, Baw Baw Shire, South Gippsland Shire, Latrobe City, Wellington Shire and East Gippsland Shire came together and began working towards a strategy and actions to assist and thus ‘Creative Gippsland’ was born – a regional cooperation to put culture on the tourism map and shine a light on creative arts.
Gippsland has a wealth of performing arts companies, festivals, museums, historic sites, galleries, artists' studios and creative retail outlets all with the prospect of attracting greater audiences. The challenge is to identify ways to create and promote a successful, positive and vibrant cultural tourism image for Gippsland
Creative Gippsland understands the wealth of art and the vast region that is Gippsland, and that this needs significant cross partnerships and collaboration. Currently our major annual project is the May Arts Celebration, known as ‘Come and Play – All of May’ which includes our unique offering of six regional artist residencies held concurrently.
