Jesse Fleay

Jesse Fleay

Position: Research Associate

Area: National Centre for Reconciliation, Truth, and Justice

Biography

A leading humanitarian author across major policy areas, Jesse has co-hosted Global Citizen, which fights to end poverty. He is a delegate to the United Nations’ GEO-7, which involves a world-wide network of authors, fellows and partners; a transparent nomination process that allows governments and other stakeholders to nominate experts to the process; advisory groups to provide guidance on scientific and policy issues, with comprehensive peer review processes. Jesse was a signatory co-author to the Uluru Statement from the Heart in 2017, which was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in 2021. After the referendum, Jesse was appointed to the National Centre for Reconciliation, Truth and Justice within Federation University’s Global and Engagement portfolios. With the centre, he leads national and regional transformational changes alongside a team of First Nations scholars from all points of the Southern Sky. Since the Voice referendum, Jesse has reconnected with multiple networks where he is actively involved: Reconciliation Australia, Australian Fabians, the Australian Republic Movement, and various multicultural communities where he plays an active part as an ally.

Jesse is committed to exploring regional and national understandings and engagements regarding reconciliation, truth, and justice, across industry, academic and community settings. Jesse’s doctoral thesis contributes the first and only model for an Australian republic, along with calls to fully reconcile Australia. Jesse believes in justice, and fairness in society and only works with people committed to First Nations people, and their self-determination.
