Apply for Fedliving student accommodation

Learn about eligibility, costs, key dates and how to apply for student res.

Who can apply to live on res?

You must be enrolled or intending to enrol in a Federation course, or be a full-time student at another higher education institution, to apply. You'll find the full selection guidelines in the Fedliving residences admissions and allocation criteria (PDF 189 KB). Travelling to another campus for placement? You don't need to apply for student res – you can just go ahead and book short-term accommodation.

Contract options for 2026

Academic year (22 February to 6 November)
Semester 1 (22 February to 19 June)
Semester 2 (10 July to 7 November)
12-month (2 February 2026 to 1 February 2027)
Medical students at Monash Gippsland (30 January to 13 November)

Summer accommodation is also available for eligible residents – applications will open later this year.

Payments

Payment dates and amounts will be sent with your accommodation offer. Invoices are issued monthly by email, and payments can be made via the Fedliving Portal, BPay or Post Billpay.
 
If you don't pay your fees by the due date, you may be sent an overdue notice and charged a late fee. We may also withhold assessment results, testamurs and academic transcripts, cancel your enrolment, and exclude you from course completion or graduation. (See Section 52 of the Federation University Australia Statute 2021 for details.)

Fedliving application FAQs

Applications open every August for the following year. It’s best to apply early so you don’t miss out.

Yes. You can list your preferences in your application and you’ll be offered the highest option that’s available.

Use an email you check often and won’t lose access to because Fedliving will send you important updates.

We'll send you an offer via email after we receive and process your application.

We accept students from other universities, as long as they’re studying full‑time. Download the Fedliving residences admissions and allocation criteria (PDF 188 KB) if you'd like more info.

Yes – just fill out the expression of interest form.

You must accept your offer via the Fedliving Portal by the deadline listed in the offer email. Use the username and password from your application, and make sure you pay the acceptance fee.

If you've changed your mind about living on res, please email fedliving@federation.edu.au so we can cancel your application.

We'll probably try to contact you, but if we can't get in touch, your offer might be cancelled and you may need to reapply.

No, deferrals aren’t available. If your study plans change, let us know and reapply when you're ready.
