There are many different video file formats used in everyday cameras and mobile devices. Some of these can have compatibility issues with your editing software, student mobile devices or may even fail to upload to video repository websites such as YouTube or Tube.
What camera should I purchase?
To minimise software compatibility issues, CLIPP recommends using camera devices that utilise the following codecs and container formats:
- Quicktime MOV
- MPEG (1&2)
- MP4, M4V
Common devices that utilise these preferred formats
- iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch
- Android devices (Galaxy S, HTC One)
- Canon DSLRs
- Many point-and-shoot cameras
Video editing software that supports these formats
- Windows Live Movie Maker
- Adobe Premiere
Websites that support these formats
