Adding video to a Moodle course page

There are two main ways to add Kaltura video to your course. One is to provide a link to the video resource, the other is to embed a video within the course page, resource or activity. There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods, so it's important to choose the most appropriate option to suit the intended need.

Embedding a Kaltura video into the course page, resource, or activity.

Embedding a Kaltura video resource allows a video player to be displayed inline with text and other items in a Moodle course page, resource or activity. You can embed a Kaltura video anywhere there is a Moodle text editor. Whilst the process is the same, regardless of where you place the video, to embed a Kaltura video into your course you will require a 'label'. Before continuing, please ensure you already have a video file. See documentation on how to create a video if you have not already done so.

1. Ensure that editing is enabled in your course by clicking the Turn editing on button.

2. You may embed a video anywhere the Moodle text editor is present. To embed a video on the Moodle course front page, you will need to first add a label.

To add a label, click Add a activity or resource. Select Label which is located towards the bottom of the list, then click Add.

3. Within the editor, click on the Kaltura Button.

4. Your My Media panel will now appear. From the menu at the top of the screen, you can choose to either insert a pre-existing video under the My Media, Media Galleries or shared repositories menus or insert a new video under the Add New menu.

Note: The My Media menu is where all media owned and created by you is listed. Media galleries contains all files already associated with a particular course. Shared Repository contains a list of published videos that have been shared by other Kaltura users.

5. In this example, the video is located within My Media. Click the Select button to the right of the required video to add it to your course.

6. You will be shown a preview screen to check the video selected. Once you are happy, click Embed to add it to the editor window.

7. You will now be returned to the editor containing a link to your video. Click Save and return to course to complete the process and to view your video.

Note: the video will not display until saved!

To add a Kaltura video as a file which can be clicked and played you need to create or add a video resource.

1. Ensure that editing is enabled in your course by clicking the Turn editing on button.

2. Next click Add an activity or resource within the Topic you require the video listed.

3. Choose Kaltura Video under Resources. Then click Add.

5. Under Video click Add media.

6. Your My Media panel will now appear. From the menu at the top of the screen, you can choose to either insert a pre-existing video under the My Media, Media Galleries or shared repositories menus or insert a new video under the Add New menu.

7. In this example, the video is located within My Media. Click the Select button to the right of the required video to add it to your course.
