Requirements for using Adobe Connect

You are required to have:

  • A mobile or tablet device platform capable of running Adobe Connect
  • Some devices may require latest software updates and plugins downloaded to operate
  • Stable and fast internet connection such as Wi-Fi or 3G/4G.

Downloading the mobile app

The Adobe Connect app may be downloaded from either the Apple App Store for Apple devices or Google Play store for Android devices.
For Android devices you are required to have version 4.4 or higher. You must go to the google play store and search Adobe Connect then click download.
For Apple devices you are required to have iOS 7.0 or later. You must go to the Apple Store and search Adobe Connect then click Get you will be required to have an Apple ID account.

Using the mobile app for Android devices

  1. Once the app has been installed open it, you will be required to go to your Virtual Learning Spaces link through Moodle on your device.

  2. From your Virtual Learning Space menu click Join to enter your virtual classroom.

  3. Upon entering the room you will be taken to the Terms of Use where you will have to click Accept if you want to proceed.

  4. Next you will have to click on your Virtual Learning Spaces Link as you already have downloaded the app previously.  
  5. The next stop is to decide whether you are going to enter as a guest or a member if you have a FedUni Moodle account it should be the same username and password as your Moodle account. If you don't have a FedUni account then your only option is to enter as a guest.

    *Tip When entering as a guest it is recommended to enter your real name as this will prevent a lot of confusion later on. Once you have entered your details click Enter to proceed.
  6. After entering you're details you will be taken to a waiting screen where you will have to wait until the Host lets you in the room.

Setting up your microphone

  1. From the main room screen you are presented with a variety of buttons firstly you will want to connect your microphone next this can be done under the microphone icon.

  2. From the audio menu you click Connect my microphone to connect your microphone and begin sharing.

  3. Once your microphone icon has gone blue you have started sharing.

  4. You can choose to adjust your audio level if your volume is to loud or soft from the volume slider.

Setting up your webcam

1. From the main screen click on the webcam Icon, once activated it should light up blue.11 Android Webcam Icon

2. Once you have your camera activated you will need to click Broadcast to start sharing your webcam.
 
*Note: In the top right hand corner of the preview box you have the option of switching your camera with a camera icon with an arrow around it eg. From front to back camera.

3. Sharing live you will be able to pause your video at any time so that you can have a screenshot saving internet bandwidth. This can be done by clicking the webcam symbol with the pause next to it located in the top left hand corner of the video pod.

Using the Status Icons

Using the status icon gives you the option of showing your opinion on things whether you agree or disagree as well as any comments on the way the presenter is presenting. 
 
1. To use the Status Icons you need to click on the Icon with the person with their hand raised14 Android Status Icon Button


2. Raise Hand notifies the host or presenter that you have a question and they will come to answer your question by either enabling your microphone or via text chat.

3. Agree/Disagree displays a green circle with a tick for agree or a red circle with a cross for disagree next to your name when clicked. This can be used to indicate you agree or disagree with what the presenter has said.

Using the Attendees Pod

In Adobe Connect you have the Attendees Pod used for keeping track of who's in your room. Here you can view Hosts, Presenters and Participants in the room. You can also change their level of access from either Host, Presenter or Participant. As well as access private chat for chatting with an individual instead of the whole group.

Communicating with the Chat Pod

In the Adobe Connect App you are able to communicate via text using the chat pod.

Setting up your webcam

Using the Status Icons

Some of the other option available are:
 
Agree If you agree with what the presenter has said and will show a green circle with a tick.
Disagree If you disagree with what the presenter has said will show a red circle with a cross.
Speak Louder If you feel the presenter needs to speak louder.
Speak Softer If you feel the presenter needs to speak softer.
Speed Up If you feel the presenter needs to speed up.
Slow Down If you feel the presenter needs to slow down.
Laughter If you thought what the presenter said was humorous.
Applause If you feel the presenter needs applauding.

Using the Attendees Pod

In Adobe Connect you have the Attendees Pod used for keeping track of who's in your room. Here you can view Hosts, Presenters and Participants in the room.

In the attendees pod you can see who is a mobile device user by their icon having a device next to their icon.

In the toolbar on the side you can also use this to access the Attendees view sorted by roles Hosts, Participants and Students.

Communicating with the Chat Pod

In the Adobe Connect App you are able to communicate via text using the chat pod.
1. From the menu screen select the chat tab icon.

2. From the chat menu you have the option of entering text to share. You can either share text with everyone or send a private message to an individual. Sending a private message to an individual is done by selecting an individual's name and typing in the chat box.

Changing the view

You are able to return to the original view an overview of everything happening in all the pods by clicking on the icon in the top left corner.

Logging out of Adobe Connect

When you have finished and need to leave your session go to the icon in the bottom left of the screen to select Logout.
