Biography

As a Senior Learning Skills Adviser, Talia provides academic and language skills support to undergraduate and post-graduate students and curriculum development support to staff.  One of Talia's main areas of interest is collaborating with academic staff to embed academic literacy into courses, targeting the specific skills required for students to complete their assessment tasks. The process of embedding takes the form of face-to-face delivery during lectures or tutorials and/or Moodle-based activities, all of which are developed in consultation with the lecturer. Talia also works collaboratively with academic staff on curriculum development, in particular, reviewing and designing assessment tasks using scaffolding pedagogies and creating rubrics that help to develop students' knowledge and skills for university study.

Talia is also the chair of the Internationalisation of the Curriculum (IoC) Working Party, whose purpose is to develop standards and pedagogies for best practice in relation to IoC and a formal program of implementation for the university.

Talia has an extensive background in international education having worked in Thailand and Indonesia for two years and as academic adviser to international students in university settings for over 12 years.  Talia has also worked with migrant communities in Melbourne and Ballarat coordinating the Volunteer Tutor Program and initiating the Telelink program for elderly migrants at the Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council.
