Online facilitation

The role of the teacher in supporting active student engagement online

Within wholly online or blended courses, provision should be made for both course related teacher-led and peer support communication. An effective example using Moodle for this is to have a ‘common room' for general communication as well as encouraging use of the site by structuring discussion learning activities around the course content or readings. These should include sufficient instruction, relevancy of task to content covered, and be moderated by the teacher. These can also be used as formative assessment pieces.

The following videos provide an illustration of how to engage and motivate students and conduct effective online discussions online.
