Delivery for Aggregated Demand
What is aggregated demand and delivery?
Aggregated demand means that there will be small numbers of students at FedUni Mt Helen and across multiple Dual Sector Partnership (DSP) TAFE locations that make up the same cohort of students within a course.
Within the DSP arrangement with regional TAFEs, a major component of this delivery will need to be face-to-face using both teaching staff at Mt Helen and teaching and/or teaching support/tutor staff at the partner location. Also a major component of this will be the bringing together of small numbers of students from different locations as one cohort and facilitating communication and collaboration across multiple sites. This is different from the University's current partner delivery model (see below), and also differs from a fully online delivery model.
How is aggregated delivery different to our current partner delivery model?
An aggregated DSP delivery model differs to the Partner model as students from separate locations exist as one single cohort collaborating and coordinated from within a single Moodle online course presence.
Aggregated delivery – Synchronous 'face-to-face'
(Video Conferencing & Classroom Technologies)
Synchronous 'face-to-face' aggregated delivery is the ability to run 'face-to-face', synchronous (live/at the same time) sessions across multiple locations. These sessions could be both lectures, and interactive sessions/tutorials/workshops, primarily delivered by teachers at the Mt Helen campus.
Case Study: Synchronous 'face-to-face' aggregated delivery
Live classroom or lecture with small number of students in different locations, e.g.
- 40 students at Mt Helen (+1 Lecturer)
- 10 students at Gipps TAFE (+1 tutor or support staff)
- 8 students at Wodonga TAFE (+1 tutor or support staff)
- 6 students at SuniTAFE (+1 tutor or support staff)
The session is delivered by lecturer at Mt Helen and tutors are available at each DSP location. Depending on budget and availability, these tutors may or may not have specific subject related expertise. Depending on the type of session being delivered, there may or may not be a need for a teaching staff member or technical assistance at the partner locations.
Broadly speaking this type of delivery will require video conferencing type classroom/lecture theatre technology. The exact features needed will depend on the type of teaching scenario. Aggregated delivery – Synchronous (virtual classroom)
Synchronous 'virtual classroom' aggregated delivery is the ability to run live/synchronous sessions using a virtual classroom tool, where students log in from anywhere, for example, home. These sessions would be delivered by the lecturer at Mt Helen (however the technology could also be used by teaching staff at DSP locations) with students from all sites logging in from any location with computer and internet access.
We currently use Blackboard Collaborate as our virtual classroom tool.
Blended/online delivery – Asynchronous
(Online course delivery through single Moodle course presence)
As all students from multiple cohorts will exist within the single Moodle course presence. The recommendations for including discussion forums and other asynchronous communication and collaboration features are the same as for wholly online delivery.
