Summary of previous experience

Mr Nethercote began his career in the electricity industry in 1976 and held a number of key strategic and line management positions within the industry, particularly during the reform of the electricity industry and in the privatisation, formulation and establishment of the competitive electricity market and associated rules.

He has played a key role in contributing to the future direction of the industry through his active involvement and participation with the Energy Supply Association of Australia and the National Generators Forum. He served as Chair of both these National organisation for a number of years.

Up until his retirement at the end of June 2012, Mr Nethercote was Chief Executive of Loy Yang Power, Chairman of Loy Yang Marketing Management Company; a member of MTE Research Pty Ltd, the CSIRO Energy Futures Forum and the Energy and Transport Sector Advisory Council. Mr Nethercote is a registered assessor for the National Association of Testing Authorities in the field of mechanical lifting equipment. He was awarded AIM Manager of the year in April 2005 and the Sir Willis Connolly Medal in 2010 for his outstanding contributions to the mining and energy industries.

Mr Nethercote was a member of the Monash University Council from 2008 to December 2013. He was also a member of the Monash Audit & Risk and Estates Committees and Chairman of the Monash University – Gippsland Advisory Committee from 2007 to 2013. Mr Nethercote is a current member of the State Government's Gippsland Tertiary Education Council.

Particular areas of expertise / interest

Ian has particular interests and extensive experience in the maintenance and operation of large thermal generation and mining assets. As Chief Executive and leader of major business he has extensive knowledge and skills in areas of corporate governance, financial management due diligence activities, industrial relations, risk management and energy market derivatives.

He also has strong interests in farming and various community activities.
