Teacher Selector Statement

Teacher suitability assessments are a mandatory requirement of the Victorian Selection Framework (VSF) for enrolment into initial teacher education programs. At Federation University Australia we offer candidates the choice of completing the CASPer assessment or the Teacher Selector Statement. Both of these assessments along with ATAR ensure that candidates have the right mix of qualities for a career in teaching.

If you are applying directly to Federation University Australia you can complete the Teacher Selector Statement (TSS) online through VTAC.

The TSS consists of a 1000-word statement against five separate categories associated with your interest in teaching and personal attributes. Your statement supplies Federation University Austalia with information on;

  • Interests
  • Motivation to teach
  • Self-efficacy
  • Engagement with learning
  • Resilience
  • Conscientiousness
  • Willingness to learn
  • Written communication skills

The TSS is assessed against a scoring rubric that allocates a score to each criterion with an overall maximum score of 15. A score of 7.5 is assessed as adequate for entry requirements related to the non-cognitive elements of the VSF. Candidates who score between 7.4 – 5 can be offered an interview. The TSS is conducted online.

Candidates who are applying to multiple universities are urged to complete the CASPer assessment. If Federation University Australia is identified as a destination university, your CASPer score will be sent directly to us. The lower threshold set for a CASPer assessment is -2SD.
