A PhD position is available to undertake research on Numerical Analysis of Cracking and Deformation in Concrete Gravity Dams Under Seismic Loads.

The aim of this project is to develop a numerical tool for the analysis of cracking and deformations in concrete gravity dams to address the growing concerns on the safety of dams under seismic loads. This predictive tool will assist the industrial partners, other dam owners and government agencies in maximising dam safety and minimising upgrade and maintenance expenditure.

Applicants should have a Bachelor or Masters degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent in Mathematics with a strong interest in computational mechanics. Ability to program is essential. Familiarity with the Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method or the Finite Element Method is desirable.

The candidate is also expected to meet the minimum requirements for entry into the PhD program.

Scholarship details

Stipend: $27, 082 per annum, 
Top up: up to $8500 (depending on experience of applicant)

Tuition fees:

Domestic students: An RTP Fee-Waiver Scholarship will cover the cost of tuition

International students: full-fee place

Eligibility

Eligible applicants must have completed a first-class honours and/or masters by research degree or equivalent. This scholarship is open to international and domestic students.
